I am!

I have been working on my book. That book that so many people told me I was writing while I was going through a transformative healing journey with breast cancer. During that time, I sent out emails to keep my friends and family up to date on my journey. So many of my family members and close friends were very concerned about my health, that it helped them to hear how I was doing. It also helped me by allowing me to speak about my experience as it was happening.

Now, almost 8 years later, I have organized those emails and made observations from who I am today. It has been fun examining the difference between who I was then and who I am now. I have had four people read what I have written so far and I see that I have more to write before publishing. I also have some clarity to find in my message. I am excited by this.

I just got back from spending two days with Hay House Publishers. Doreen Virtue (most published author at Hay House, and an Angel expert) had some supportive, encouraging, helpful words, and Reid Tracy, president of Hay House, was there speaking to 400 writers who are looking to publish. He shared a wealth of information with all of us about what it takes to publish–the good, the bad and the ugly. A newly published author also shared her experience with us. She used a ghost writer which is an avenue I hadn’t even considered but one that many people choose. These is so much to digest from that weekend. I am so glad I went and made the connections that I did.

The biggest message is that anyone can publish. There are so many options out there these days. The illusions of making a ton of money from a book are dashed, so I will publish for other reasons. If even one person is helped by my writing, then I have made a difference in the world. Having a book published means that I have a legacy. Somehow, that feels important to me at this stage of my life.

If you are thinking about publishing a book, I would encourage you to move forward with that dream. It is possible. Hay House has these writers workshops and some other ones that get people to really complete their projects. You can check it out at HayHouse.com. Or if you look, I’ll bet other publishers offer something similar. There might even be a writers course in your local junior college that could tell you the same information. In any case, I am inspired. And I encourage you as well if that is a dream of yours.

Please leave me a comment and let’s begin a conversation about writing and publishing.

I am participating in the competition that Hay House is having for a contract with them. That is so exciting and motivating for me to get my book finished, create a proposal and submit it. I have until September 23rd to complete it. Wish me luck.
